12 Signs of the Zodiac
Simplified
There are 12 basic signs of the zodiac, which describe the 12 basic personality types that cover the gamut of human nature and experiences. Each sun sign has a planetary ruler (that comes from our solar system) and each sun sign is influenced by the planet that rules it.
Each of the 12 signs of the zodiac are given an arc of 30 degrees from the Earth and as the Earth revolves around the Sun, the Sun appears to pass through each of these 12 arcs throughout the year, one at a time.
The star signs are properly referred to as the "Sun Signs", which are determined by the date of birth.
The Sun Sun is the aspect the sun makes when viewed from the Earth in relation to each of the star signs assigned to each arc.
The Sun sign describes the person's basic personality type (but of course there are other factors which are involved here and these will be described in other parts of the site).
Birthdays on the Cusp
The people who are in-between signs
There is an actual point in time where one sign ends and the next one starts and this is an exact time, which changes anywhere between 1-3 days of the dates above, which are just an average of all the changes. As the Sun moves from one 30 degree arc to the next one, the Sun signs change.
If you are born on the cusp, you need to get an astrological report done to work out what your sun sign really is - you could be surprised!
