The Ascendant (Rising Sign)
The Meaning of the Ascendant
Simplified
The Ascendant is worked out by knowing the time, date and place of birth.
The Ascendant is the image you present yourself to the world. It is the first impression people have of you when they meet you. The Ascendant, along with the Sun Sign and the Moon Sign are the three most important definitions of personality in astrology, as they describe the inner and outer you.
The Ascendant is how you want others to see you - it is the first impression you give to people.

The Ascendant Further Described
What's the deal with the ascendant?
There is an actual point in time where one sign ends and the next one starts and this is an exact time, which changes anywhere between 1-3 days of the dates above, which are just an average of all the changes. As the Sun moves from one 30 degree arc to the next one, the Sun signs change.
If you are born on the cusp, you need to get an actual astrological report done to work out what your sun sign really is.
The Meaning of the Descendant
Exact opposite of the Ascendant
The Descendant is the exact opposite point of the Ascendant and whatever sign it is in, usually denotes the type of person we are attracted to, as we usually need that to balance us out.
For example, a person with a Scorpio will be most attracted to a person that has the traits of a Taurus - someone that is patient, steadfast, reliable and good looking, who will always be there for them. It does not necessarily have to be a Taurus that is the right partner, as long as they have those traits.
To work out exactly what your descendant means and how it relates to the Ascendant and the rest of you, you need to get an actual astrological report done.
